Understanding DA & DQ

Developmental Age (DA)

Refers to the age level corresponding to your child's actual developmental achievement. If a 12-month-old child's skills match an 8-month-old's, their DA is 8 months.

Developmental Quotient (DQ)

Measuring development level relative to typical peers. DQ = DA / Chronological Age × 100

Five Developmental Domains

Different scales classify developmental areas slightly differently. Click below to explore the detailed definitions and corresponding scales for each domain.

Scales & Screening FAQ

Why are there so many different developmental scales?
Scales are often adapted to account for cultural, linguistic, and environmental differences. Some are designed for quick home screening (like ASQ-3), while others are clinical tools used by specialists (like Griffiths III).
Which scale is the most accurate?
There is no single "most accurate" scale. The best scale depends on the child’s age, the specific area being screened, and the regional context. Standardized scales like ASQ-3 and Denver II are globally recognized for their reliability.
Can I use these scales at home?
Some scales, like ASQ-3, are specifically designed for parent completion. Others require professional training to administer and interpret correctly.
